Non-Maternity Maternity Style

This post is gonna be rough. But I’m trying to rummage up outfits from the past 7 months to share my maternity go to’s as far as style. As I mentioned in my last post, ideally I would’ve liked to keep up this blog throughout my pregnancy, but life just kept on going whether I was prepared or not. So, these pics are not glamorous by any means. They are not staged and styled. For the most part, they’re simple selfies taken in the bathroom at my work. Haha. Oh well. But hopefully you get the picture as far as my pregnancy style…

For me, adjusting to the bump was a bit of a challenge. My regular style is usually high waisted pants/skirt with a tucked in shirt or crop top. I almost never wore full length tops without tucking them in at least. I’m also am not a fan of buying maternity clothes as they are usually expensive (especially for the cute stuff), or so ugly/boring/matronly. I was NOT impressed with the maternity sections of most stores (Target if you’re reading this, step it up)! I did have to give in to a few maternity pants/leggings, and maybe one dress, but that was it. I was determined to make the bump work with regular clothes as much as possible. And so far it’s worked! Plus, much of the things I purchased can be worn after baby too.

Here have been my preggo style go tos:

  1. The rubber band trick (for 1st and beginning of 2nd trimeseter). Allows you to wear your regular jeans.

2. Belly band! Also lets you wear your regular pants. Good for 1st and 2nd trimesters

3. 1 or 2 trusty pairs of maternity jeans and leggings. I know this post is about not buying maternity, but realistically, you need at least a couple bottoms.

4. Stretchy sweatpants. I found these at Forever that I LOVE. They have a big, stretchy fold over waistband that even fits over the belly when you unfold it.

5. Body Con dresses/skirts – lots of them.

6. Maxi dresses/skirts

7. baggy dresses, or ones with a high waist.

8. Wrap skirts or dresses (However, these only worked for the 1st and 2nd trimesters for me)

9. Button down blouses. Leave them long, or unbutton them and knot them above the belly over a dress. (Probably my favorite go to)

10. On the same note, baggy crop tops or knotted Tees to also wear over a dress

11. Kimonos….Hide the love handles in the back

12. Belts or fabric ties to sinch in a baggier top or dress above the belly

13. Lastly, just go up a size. (I officially wear larges now. RIP size small)
